Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations reached 13 locations across East Bengaluru this year, with ISKCON Whitefield recording a cumulative footfall of around 1.5 lakh on September 4.

The expanded celebrations were part of an initiative to take the festival beyond a single temple venue and bring Janmashtami closer to neighbourhoods and residential communities across East Bengaluru. Both the number of locations and overall participation increased significantly compared to previous years.

Along with the main celebration at the ISKCON Whitefield Temple, programmes were held at community venues in AECS Layout, Panathur, Kannamangala, Sarjapur, Kaggadasapura, Marathahalli, Whitefield Inner Circle, Attibele, Belathur, Budigere, Petanahalli and Prestige Lakeside Habitat.

The celebrations began at 6 am and continued past midnight, culminating in the midnight Maha-Arati. The programmes included devotional activities, Bhagavad-gita sessions, cultural performances, children’s programmes and community activities.

Children participated in competitions and Krishna-themed activities, while the evening featured cultural performances by children, devotees and Bharatanatyam artistes. Visitors also participated in Jhulan Seva, Tulasi Pradakshina and Japa Meditation.

Another major feature of the celebrations was the distribution of Maha-Prasadam. Visitors were served a variety of traditional vegetarian preparations throughout the day, while devotees observing the Janmashtami fast were served Maha-Prasadam following the midnight celebrations.

Speaking about the initiative, Sriman Harikshetra Das, President, ISKCON Whitefield Temple, said: “We have a larger vision for Bengaluru. We aspire to see Bengaluru become the first Krishna-conscious city in the world. Our endeavour is to take three things to every neighbourhood — Harinama, the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita and Maha-Prasadam. Through festivals like Janmashtami, we hope to bring these spiritual and cultural experiences closer to people, within their own communities.”

The celebrations also gave visitors an opportunity to learn about the upcoming ISKCON Whitefield Temple project and participate in various seva initiatives, including Ekadashi Sankalpa.

The expansion to 13 locations reflects ISKCON Whitefield’s growing community outreach across East Bengaluru, with the organisation seeking to reach more neighbourhoods with its programmes in the years ahead.

Netradeep has been designed to provide accessible and quality eye-care services, including consultations, diagnostics, treatment, surgeries, and other services. The center will focus particularly on individuals and families for whom access to timely and affordable eye care may otherwise remain difficult.

The initiative stems from Acer India’s belief that healthy eyes are fundamental to an individual’s ability to learn, work, remain independent and lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Yet, for many people, eye care can remain out of reach because of treatment costs, limited access to specialized healthcare, or lack of awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations.

Through Netradeep, Acer India, together with Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar and the support of Shri N. A. Haris, aims to help bridge this gap by making professional eye care more accessible and encouraging earlier diagnosis and intervention. Many eye conditions can be better managed when identified at an early stage, making timely screening and access to professional medical care particularly important.

Eye-health concerns today cut across age groups. Ageing, diabetes, lifestyle changes and increasing exposure to digital screens are among the factors contributing to a growing need for greater awareness around eye health and preventive care. Through Netradeep, the initiative seeks to encourage people, particularly those from underserved sections of society, to prioritise regular eye examinations and seek treatment before conditions become more serious.

Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar President & Chairman, Bangalore Indiranagar Rotary Trust (BIRT) Gopinath Narayanan said, “Netradeep will not just be a screening centre, but also a treatment centre. Several eye ailments will be treated here free of cost for BPL segments of society. For those other than the BPL category, the nominal CGH rates will apply. Patients requiring surgery will be taken to Globe Eye Foundation at Hoskote for surgeries and brought back after the surgery, including cataract eye surgeries. Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar supports cataract eye surgeries in a big way for the rural population. Regular eye camps are conducted in Kolar, Tumkur, Bangalore and Bangalore Rural areas already. The Netradeep centre at Domlur will conduct laser procedures apart from treating refractive errors, etc.

The Eye Clinic in Domlur will specialize in Cornea, Retina, and Glaucoma care. It aims to reduce blindness through early detection, affordable treatment, and community outreach. The Domlur area lacks specialized retina and glaucoma care, crucial for treating diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, which often lead to irreversible blindness. The new clinic will offer affordable, advanced services for underserved populations, breaking financial barriers and ensuring accessible, equitable eye care for economically disadvantaged communities through subsidized treatments and outreach programs”, he added.

The programme was organised in response to a widening gap between the need for organs and their availability in India. The country’s deceased organ donation rate remains below 1 donor per million population, compared to over 48 per million in Spain. While India recorded a landmark 20,138 transplants in 2025, nearly 82% relied on living donors, and more than 89,000 patients remain on transplant waiting lists as of March 2026, a number that far outpaces the availability of organs.

Through this initiative, the hospital sought to encourage more individuals and families to come forward and pledge organ donation, in order to help bridge this critical gap and give patients on the waitlist a genuine chance at life. If we can increase organ donations through brain-dead patients, the situation will definitely improve.

Living organ transplantation continues to be a well-established and life-saving treatment option in India, particularly for kidney and liver failure, where a healthy individual, often a close family member, voluntarily donates an organ or part of an organ to a patient in need. Advances in surgical technique, immunosuppression, and post-transplant care have made living donor transplants highly safe and successful, with excellent outcomes. However, experts note that living donation alone cannot bridge India’s growing organ shortage, underscoring the need for more citizens to pledge deceased organ donation, alongside greater awareness, timely identification of potential donors, and robust hospital-level coordination.

Organised by Golden Creeper Enterprises, the three-day exhibition will be held at Taj West End, Race Course Road, and will feature more than 50 leading jewellers and over 50,000 jewellery designs for visitors.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by actor Sonal Monteiro at 12.30 pm on August 29.

The show will feature a wide variety of gold and diamond jewellery in both traditional and contemporary designs, giving customers an opportunity to explore and choose from diverse collections at a single venue.

Special emphasis has also been placed on quality and certification, with BIS-hallmarked gold jewellery and GIA/IGI-certified diamond jewellery to be showcased. Customers will also have access to services including exchange of old jewellery.

“The objective of ‘The Jewellery Show’ is to bring some of the finest designs from different cities and jewellery markets to customers in Bengaluru on a single platform. Through quality, design and variety, we aim to provide visitors with a distinctive jewellery shopping experience,” the organisers said.

The three-day exhibition is open to visitors free of charge and will provide Bengaluru customers an opportunity to explore and purchase a wide variety of jewellery designs under one roof.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಇಂದು ಸುಮಾರು 67,000 ನೋಂದಾಯಿತ ಐಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಟೆಕ್ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ತವರೂರಾಗಿದೆ. ನಗರದ ಐಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ವಲಯವು ನೇರ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರೋಕ್ಷವಾಗಿ ಸುಮಾರು 10 ಲಕ್ಷದಿಂದ 25 ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಬಲವನ್ನು ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸುವ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಉದಯೋನ್ಮುಖ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸುವ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಾಗಿರದೆ, ಅವುಗಳ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾ ಶಿಬಿರಗಳಾಗಬೇಕು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಎಂಎಸ್‌ಎಂಇಗಳು, ರೈತರು, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸೇವೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೈಜ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳ ಪರಿಹಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವಂತಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದುಆಶಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸುವ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗದೆ, ಕಾರ್ಖಾನೆಗಳು, ಸ್ಟಾರ್ಟ್‌ಅಪ್‌ಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳವರೆಗೆ ತಲುಪುವಂತಾಗಬೇಕು. ಅಂತಹ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳೇ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವನ್ನು ತಂದುಕೊಡಬಲ್ಲವು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಮಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಇತರರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು, ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಯುವಜನರಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳ ಬಾಗಿಲು ತೆರೆಯಬೇಕು ಇತರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಅನುಸರಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ಬಲವಾದ ಮಾನದಂಡವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವುದು ಇಂತಹ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳ ನಿಜವಾದ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಸಮಾವೇಶದ ಯಶಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ಹಾಜರಿದ್ದವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ಅಳೆಯಲಾಗದು. ನಾಳೆಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ನೈಪುಣ್ಯ, ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ದೇಶದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಬಲ್ಲ ಜನರ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಆಶಯವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

The sacred Kumbhabhiṣekam rituals will be performed by Sri Markandan, Mahant of the Vekkali Amman Mandir, Trichy, together with Acarya Sri Ramakrishna Ganapadigal of Kumbakonam.

Sri Bagalamukhi is one of the Dasa Mahavidyas – the Ten Great Wisdom Goddesses of the Sakta tradition. She embodies the Divine Sakti of stambhana – the power to still, restrain and bring under control disturbing forces. Her worship is traditionally associated with protection, overcoming adversity and negative influences, and developing clarity, courage and inner strength.

From the deeper Mahavidya perspective, her power is also directed inward — towards stilling uncontrolled speech, anger, fear and the restless mind.

The Maha Kumbhabhiṣekam marks the culmination of the sacred consecration process through Prana-pratisitha, mantra, homa, abhiseka and Astabandhana rites. In the Mahavidya tradition, this is not merely the inauguration of a temple, but the establishment of a sacred space for Devi darsana, worship, sādhana and spiritual transformation.
